PM Surya Ghar Yojana 2026: Get Up to ₹78,000 Subsidy for Rooftop Solar Panels – Eligibility & How to Apply

PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is one of the government’s flagship programmes on rooftop solar installation in India. In this project, eligible households can be given a central subsidy of up to ₹78,000 to install rooftop solar systems. The goal is to solve electricity problems, to encourage more renewable energy and to make millions of families energy independent.

With demand for electricity increasing and power prices increasing, rooftop solar is an affordable solution for home users. By installing solar panels, consumers can produce their own power and reduce their monthly power bill drastically. In many instances, excess electricity generated by the system can also be exported to the grid through the net metering system, subject to the local electricity distribution company’s policy.

Subsidy Details

The subsidy amount depends on the capacity of the rooftop solar system installed by the beneficiary.

1 kW Solar System: Subsidy of up to ₹30,000. 2 kW Solar System: Subsidy of up to ₹60,000. 3 kW or Higher Solar System: Maximum subsidy of ₹78,000.

The subsidy is directly credited to the beneficiary's registered bank account after the installation is verified and approved.

Who Can Apply?

As a result of PM Surya Ghar Yojana, the applicants should meet the following eligibility criteria:

Needs to be an Indian citizen. Should own a residential property which is suitable for rooftop solar installation. Must have a valid electricity connection in their name. Should not have already received a subsidy for the same rooftop solar installation under another central government scheme. Documents Required

The applicants are generally required to submit the following documents:

Bank account details

Mobile number linked with Aadhaar.

How to Apply

Application for eligibility can be done online by the applicants through these steps:

Have a look at the official PM Surya Ghar portal. Register using your state, electricity distribution company (DISCOM), consumer number and phone number in the official PM Surya Ghar portal. Log in to the portal and complete the rooftop solar application form. Upload the required documents and submit the application. Request from your local DISCOM and wait for approval from your local DISCOM. After approval, install the rooftop solar system through an empanelled vendor. The subsidy will be processed and credited to your bank account once the installation has been completed and the net meter has been installed.

Benefits of the Scheme

PM Surya Ghar Yojana offers homeowners a number of long-term benefits. It lowers electricity bills, promotes clean and renewable energy, reduces carbon emissions, and increases energy security. Homeowners can also benefit from net metering, allowing them to earn credits for surplus electricity supplied to the grid.

The PM Surya Ghar Yojana 2026 is a step in the clean energy transition in India. By offering financial assistance of up to ₹78,000, the government aims to make rooftop solar affordable for all families. Eligible families are encouraged to apply through the official portal.
