Robo-Advisors vs Human Advisors: Which One Is the Smarter Choice for Your Money

As a result, people’s money management has become much easier thanks to technology.

Today investors can choose between traditional human financial advisors and digital robo-advisors for their wealth to grow.

They are both trying to help people achieve their financial goals, but they are quite different in terms of cost, personalization and human interaction.

A robo-advisor is an online investment platform that uses algorithms and artificial intelligence to create and manage investment portfolios. After asking a few questions about your income, financial goals, and risk tolerance, the platform automatically recommends and manages a diversified investment portfolio.

It also rebalances investments over time to maintain the desired asset allocation.

One of the biggest advantages of robo-advisors is affordability. The management fees of most of them are much lower than that of traditional financial advisors.

This is an attractive option for new investors and those with smaller portfolios. A number of robo-advisors also require very little investment or no minimum investment which is affordable for most people to start with.

Convenience is another major benefit. Robo-advisors are available 24/7 through websites or mobile apps, so you can keep track of your investments and make contributions, make payments and keep track of your money and track your financial progress anytime.

Automated features like portfolio rebalancing, dividend reinvestment, and tax-loss harvesting are all part and parcel of a portfolio rebalancing that is automated and easy to use with no constant attention from the user to maintain and therefore more efficient.

But robo-advisors still have their limitations. Since algorithms generate new recommendations, they may not cover all financial situations or other life events such as marriage, starting a business, inheritance or estate planning.

Investors also miss out on the emotional guidance and reassurance that an experienced financial advisor can provide during market turbulence.

Human financial advisors are more personal, able to advise on how to invest and plan for the future and can provide emotional advice to the client in an uncertain market.

The downside is that personalized financial advice usually comes at a price. Human advisors will charge a percentage of assets under management, hourly fees, or flat consulting costs.

For investors with little money, such costs may result in lower total returns on investment over time.

The way you choose between the two is very much a matter of financial needs. If you are a beginner, you have basic investment goals, you are looking for a low-cost solution and want a quick investment plan, a robo-advisor is a good first step.

If your finances are more complex or you want to have a human advisor who can give you the best advice and help you plan for your long-term financial planning, it’s probably better to work with a human advisor.

Many financial experts think it is the future in hybrid advisory services that combine the efficiency of robo-advisors with human expertise.

This approach enables automated portfolio management and yet provides access to financial advice when needed.

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer; the best way to invest, and your experience, financial goals, budget and the level of personal advice you expect, are all part of that.

Technology, human expertise or technology-based investment is the best way of getting started but the most important thing you would suggest is to invest with a clear financial plan.
