SoftBank is reportedly preparing to reduce its stake in e-commerce company Meesho through a major block deal valued at approximately ₹1,435 crore. The transaction is expected to take place on September 3, with SoftBank’s investment vehicle, SVF II Meerkat (DE) LLC, planning to sell around 7 crore shares of the company at a floor price of ₹205 per share. The proposed price represents a discount of about 3% compared to Meesho’s latest market closing price.

According to market sources, the deal involves approximately 1.5% of Meesho’s total equity. The transaction is expected to be managed by Bank of America (BofA) Securities India and J.P. Morgan India, which have been appointed as placement agents for the share sale.
The planned divestment comes at a time when several early investors in Meesho have been gradually trimming their holdings following the company’s public listing. Over the past few months, investors including Peak XV Partners, Elevation Capital, and Y Combinator have also sold portions of their stakes through block deals, reflecting a broader trend of venture capital and private equity investors booking profits after years of investment.
As of June 2026, SVF II Meerkat held an 8.6% stake in Meesho, making it one of the company’s significant public shareholders. Even after the proposed sale, SoftBank is expected to remain an important investor in the Bengaluru-based e-commerce platform.
Why the Deal Matters
Block deals of this size are closely watched by investors because they often influence market sentiment and stock performance. Large stake sales can increase the supply of shares in the market, which may put short-term pressure on stock prices. However, such transactions can also improve liquidity and attract new institutional investors.
The proposed floor price of ₹205 per share is roughly 3.1% lower than Meesho’s closing price of ₹211.60 on September 2. Despite concerns surrounding the stake sale, Meesho shares ended the day with gains of more than 3%, indicating continued investor interest in the company.
Analyst Concerns on Valuation
The stake sale announcement comes shortly after brokerage firm CLSA initiated coverage on Meesho with an “Underperform” rating and a target price of ₹150 per share. The brokerage highlighted concerns regarding the company’s ability to translate its large user base and market presence into sustainable long-term profitability. CLSA noted that while Meesho has built a strong consumer franchise, monetisation remains a key challenge.
Analysts believe the company’s future performance will largely depend on its ability to improve margins, strengthen revenue streams, and maintain growth in India’s highly competitive e-commerce sector. Faster-than-expected monetisation could support the stock, while execution challenges could create downside risks.
Outlook for Investors
The upcoming block deal will be closely monitored by market participants as it could influence near-term trading activity in Meesho shares. Investors will also watch whether institutional demand is strong enough to absorb the stake sale without causing significant price volatility.
Despite the sale by an existing investor, Meesho continues to be one of India’s leading e-commerce platforms, with a strong presence in value-driven online shopping. The company’s future growth trajectory and path toward profitability will remain key factors determining investor confidence in the stock.
