Anthropic IPO Moves Closer: AI Giant Eyes Mid-October Launch

Anthropic’s eagerly awaited initial public offering (IPO) appears to be getting closer and closer to a close and the artificial intelligence company will start to market the sale around mid-October, people familiar with the matter told Reuters.

The change of plan is in contrast to the company’s earlier timeline which would have sent its IPO prospectus out in early September.

The prospectus is now expected to arrive later this month, but that could be an issue if the company is not ready yet.

If the current plan goes forward, Anthropic would become one of the biggest technology companies to test investor appetite for artificial intelligence in public markets.

The IPO has attracted huge attention because of the huge valuations of the largest AI companies and the fast growth of demand for advanced AI models.

But Reuters reported on a potential public offering of the company’s stock price at a valuation of as much as $2 trillion, potentially one of the biggest IPOs in the world.

That valuation would be an indicator of how investors see the long-term commercial value of generative AI and the general AI industry.

Anthropic, the company behind the Claude family of AI models, is expanding its business as demand for AI-powered software and enterprise services increases.

And its growth has come with huge investments in computing infrastructure; the major cost of AI systems in the world is big.

Several major Wall Street banks are reportedly advising Anthropic on the IPO process. Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan and Citi are among the banks involved, according to Reuters.

The company is also working to finalise a $15 billion revolving credit facility which would go ahead of meetings with analysts as part of the preparations for the possible listing.

Anthropic could also go through the IPO process faster than a typical company because of its existing relationships with financial analysts, Reuters reported.

The potential listing could happen at a particularly vital time for the technology sector.

Anthropic may find itself in close proximity to other key AI companies considering public-market debut dates. A number of big AI listings might make 2026 a landmark year for the sector.

But investors should be taking the timeline as a matter of conjecture. Anthropic has not publicly confirmed the mid-October schedule and declined to comment on the latest reports.

For investors, the IPO will provide the chance to assess Anthropic with public-market metrics as opposed to the private funding rounds that have propelled its valuation so far.

When firm IPO documents are made public, revenue growth, AI infrastructure costs, competition and path to profitability will be the focus of the company.

Anthropic’s next step is the prospectus, which could be a week or two later in September and marketing around mid-October.

Should the company go through the process as reported, its IPO could be one of the biggest market events of the year and a major test of investor faith in the future of artificial intelligence.
