Donald Trump Says He Has Brought $18 Trillion in Investments to the US, Insists His Focus Is on the Country

Trump has said his international travels have brought $18 trillion in investments to the United States and he believes the foreign trips are for the benefit of the country, not for his own self-interest.

Trump said his travels will provide economic opportunities for the U.S. and that his priority is to grow America’s economy.

“I’ve brought in $18 trillion for this country. When I travel, I make money for AMERICA. Not for me. I don’t care about that,” Trump said.

He also stressed that his motivation is not personal financial gain, he said.

“I already have money. I don’t want money. I want money for my country.”

Trump has frequently touted foreign investments, trade agreements, and business deals made as evidence of his economic agenda as well as the business deals he signed in his administration. And he has said that the investment flows into the United States are what creates jobs, manufacturing, infrastructure development, and long-term economic growth.

The remarks come as Trump has continued to stress economic success as a top theme of his presidency. His administration has regularly cited investment announcements from global companies and sovereign funds as signals of confidence about the U.S. economy and thus for investment in the U.S. economy.

But the President's claim of bringing $18 trillion to the country has drawn attention, and analysts say that such figures typically include announced investment commitments made over extended periods. The precise methodology and composition of the figure have not been detailed in his remarks.

Trump’s supporters see foreign capital as part of his “America First” economic agenda, as they say greater investment can boost employment and industrial expansion. Opponents, on the other hand, often push for independent verification of big investment promises and distinguish between announced commitments and investments that have been fully realized.

Trump's most recent signals underline that economic growth and investment are at the heart of his policy goals. The President has said, as debate over how big and how those investments would impact America is ongoing, that he is working around the world in order to make things better for the United States but not for himself.
