SpaceX Surges 4% to Overtake Amazon in Market Cap, Nears Microsoft

SpaceX shares rose 4 percent Monday, pushing the company’s market capitalization above Amazon’s and just behind Microsoft’s. The rally reflects investor faith in Elon Musk’s space venture—a business rapidly changing from a private aerospace startup to one of the world’s most valuable publicly traded companies.

The surge follows SpaceX’s landmark IPO last month, which raised $75 billion and was priced at $1.77 trillion. With today’s gains, SpaceX is now ahead of Amazon, which has a market cap of approximately $1.74 trillion, and is one of the world’s top five largest companies by market capitalization. Microsoft, however, is almost a year ahead at $2 trillion.

Analysts say the rally is because SpaceX’s two growth engines are generating a lot of demand for investors’ interest in the company’s Starlink satellite network and Starship program: Starlink’s recurring subscription revenue for subscribers and Starship are inching towards millions of users worldwide, and Starship is going to revolutionize space travel and interplanetary logistics. These are both long-term franchises that are seen as promising for profitability and global influence.

Investor sentiment has also been buoyed by Musk’s near-trillionaire status following the IPO. His stakes in SpaceX and Tesla now mark Musk in the company’s midst of becoming the world’s first trillionaire, a feat that only makes the market more excited.

Even with the optimism, analysts say that SpaceX has many challenges ahead of them to deal with—high debt levels, ambitious timelines, and ongoing financial losses. If Starship launches or regulatory approval issues or a slow Starship launch or a regulatory approval setback could negatively impact SpaceX's valuation, it will have a negative impact on its stock price will be a big deal.

But today’s rally shows the changing dynamics of global markets. SpaceX’s rise above Amazon is an indication that companies with the edge in new technologies are taking a bigger place than the old ones of e-commerce or cloud services. For investors, it is a high-risk and high-return company—if you care about space exploration and global connection.

SpaceX’s 4 percent rise today is more than just a stock market story; it’s a signal of how quickly the company has reshaped the global corporate hierarchy. By overtaking Amazon and closing in on Microsoft, SpaceX has solidified its position as a tech-space powerhouse, and its next frontier is not only Earth’s markets but the stars themselves.
