Marvell Technology announced investments of $250 million to invest in India over the next three years in a bid to build the country's rapidly growing semiconductor and electronics industry. It will help in speeding up research and development (R&D) as well as engineering capacity and innovation in advanced chip design.

At a time when India is actively positioning itself as a global semiconductor hub through the India Semiconductor Mission and the government’s production-linked incentive (PLI) schemes, Marvell’s recent investment is also an endorsement of India’s growing talent pool and its potential to become a key player in the global semiconductor supply chain.
Today’s investment will primarily be directed towards expanding its engineering activities, strengthening design capabilities, and developing next-generation semiconductor technologies, according to the company. Marvell has established a presence in India already with engineering centres in Bengaluru, Pune, Hyderabad, and Ahmedabad where tens of thousands of engineers contribute to the company’s global product development.
Marvell Technology is a leader in designing semiconductor solutions for data centres, cloud computing, networking, enterprise storage, automotive, artificial intelligence (AI), and 5G infrastructure. As demand for AI-powered computing, cloud services, and high-speed connectivity continues to grow worldwide, the company is increasing investments in strategic markets like India to support future innovation.
Experts in the industry say India’s huge pool of highly skilled semiconductor engineers has become one of the country’s biggest competitive advantages. Global technology companies have grown their chip design and R&D activities in India, and it is a strong point of the country’s innovation in the technology sector in spite of the relatively low level of semiconductor manufacturing in India.
The planned investment is also in line with the Indian government's strategy to strengthen domestic semiconductor capabilities. There are several policies and financial incentives that the government has taken to attract international semiconductor companies to locate manufacturing facilities, design centres, and research sites in the country in the last few years.
Marvell's investment will also create jobs for high-skilled chip and software engineers, hardware engineers, artificial intelligence, and next-generation networking technology. The expansion may also help in knowledge sharing and strengthen India's semiconductor design ecosystem.
This is the first time that technology companies have been considering semiconductors. With semiconductors in big demand in the world, which are driven by artificial intelligence, electric vehicles, consumer electronics, cloud infrastructure, and telecommunications, as companies diversify their supply chains and expand engineering activities into new areas outside of traditional markets, India is now a market of interest for long-term technology investments.
Marvell's commitment would only enhance India’s reputation as a semiconductor design force in the world and may attract more investment from international chipmakers. And with more and more government support and better infrastructure and world-class engineering talent, India is moving closer to becoming a main player in the world's semiconductor industry.
Marvell Technology’s $250 million investment shows the company’s confidence in India’s innovation ecosystem and how it is becoming more and more important to the country to drive the future of semiconductor research and development and advanced chip development.
