ED Attaches Assets Worth ₹782.36 Crore of Raheja Developers in Money Laundering Case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached assets worth ₹782.36 crore from Raheja Developers Ltd. as part of the ongoing investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. The attached assets include land parcels, residential and commercial properties and other immovable assets which are linked to the real estate company.

ED Attaches ₹782.36 Crore Assets of Raheja Developers

The provisional attachment was done based on the investigation into financial irregularities and money taken from homebuyers and investors, ED added. The agency also said the investigation is based on FIRs issued by law enforcement bodies on cheating, criminal breach of trust and financial fraud.

Raheja Developers received large sums from homebuyers for residential and commercial projects but failed to deliver a number of projects in their timelines, according to the central agency. The ED is investigating whether funds from buyers were transferred to other entities or used for purposes that are not the ones initially planned.

As part of the investigation, officials have examined financial transactions, company records, banking documents and property-related information. Based on its findings, the ED provisionally attached assets valued at ₹782.36 crore to the PMLA as they are believed to be proceeds of crime.

The attached properties are land holdings and other immovable assets in different regions. The attachment is provisional and is subject to the Adjudicating Authority confirming the PMLA.

The Enforcement Directorate has said this activity is to prevent transfer, sale or disposal of assets that are suspected to have been acquired through alleged proceeds of crime during the investigation.

There are many homebuyers who have been waiting for possession of their properties for many years, it said. Financial resources for specific real estate projects were diverted, which caused delays and financial losses for customers, the authorities said.

Legal processes in the case are expected to continue as investigators gather further evidence and individuals and firms associated with the company are interviewed. The ED may take further action if new evidence arises during the investigation.

The attachment of assets is part of an ongoing investigation and does not, in and of itself, prove guilt. Raheja Developers will be under judicial scrutiny and will be able to make its case before the appropriate authorities.

The latest attachment is just one piece of the larger enforcement action in the real estate industry and is the result of the agency’s continuing focus on pursuing alleged financial crimes of property developers and protecting homebuyers.

Hence, as the investigation continues, the homebuyers and investors will monitor developments and take part in any legal action that develops from the case.
