Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has asked teachers to provide students with language skills in foreign languages, saying that learning German, Japanese, and Korean can greatly help in their employment prospects in international markets.
The Chief Minister told educators at a public event that even a basic understanding of these languages could help young people get jobs overseas with wages of up to ₹2 lakh per month.
“I ask all teachers to teach children German, Japanese, and South Korean languages. Basic skills in these languages can unlock overseas jobs with salaries up to ₹2 lakh per month,” Revanth Reddy said.
The Chief Minister highlighted the growing demand for skilled professionals in countries like Germany, Japan, and South Korea, where industries are suffering from workforce shortages as the population ages and more people are working in industries like manufacturing, healthcare, information technology, engineering, hospitality, and skilled trades.
For Indian youth looking to pursue their career abroad, language proficiency is now a key competitive advantage, Revanth Reddy said. He said the introduction of foreign language education at the school level would help prepare students for careers abroad and to become better workers.
The Telangana government has been focusing on skill development and aligning education with industry requirements. The Chief Minister’s comments are reflective of a broader mission to prepare students for domestic jobs but also to take part in the international labor market.
Experts have also noted that countries like Germany and Japan have introduced various programs to attract skilled foreign workers in recent years. Language proficiency is often linked to better job prospects (more seamless work-life integration, more high-paying jobs) than non-language skills.
Education professionals believe that introducing foreign language training into school and college curricula could enhance the communication skills of students and improve their global competitiveness. Basic proficiency certification in German, Japanese, or Korean is already recognized by many employers and educational institutions worldwide.
