Reliance Shares Rise Over 1% After ₹855 Crore AI Data Centre Partnership with Meta

Reliance Industries shares climbed over 1 per cent on Tuesday after it announced a ₹855 crore partnership with Meta to build India’s first AI‑enabled data centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The partnership strengthens Reliance’s digital infrastructure and is a step in Meta’s long-term commitment to India.

So far, Reliance shares were up 1.08 percent at 1,282.90 in the morning, when it was at 1,269.20. The shares hit an intraday high at 1,300 and investors were optimistic about the partnership. But even having gained more than 1% year-to-date, shares are still down almost 17% from the previous month's close as global markets are depressed.

The investment in the partnership is ₹855 crore, with Reliance owning 70% and Meta owning 30%. The Jamnagar facility will have an initial capacity of 168 MW and will see further development. Reliance will design, build and manage the center and Meta will lease computing capacity. The project will be solely renewable and cooled with desalinated seawater, an indication of the project’s sustainability.

For Reliance, it positions the conglomerate as a leader in hyperscale AI infrastructure and will be an extension of Jio's digital ecosystem. For Meta, it is the first AI-enabled data centre in India and further enhances its global AI capacity and will also further drive the $5.7 billion investment in Jio platforms in 2020. Strategically, this partnership will help India to attract AI infrastructure investments in the global community and Jamnagar will be a hub for advanced computing.

Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance, said the partnership was a “transformative moment” for India’s digital infrastructure, demonstrating readiness to lead the global AI revolution. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that the Jamnagar facility would help scale Meta’s AI infrastructure around the world while investing in India for the long run.

Analysts here are optimistic that the AI data centre partnership will open new business opportunities for Reliance, particularly in digital services and enterprise AI solutions. However, the recovery of its share price will be dependent on execution and global demand trends.
