Market Meltdown: Reliance Industries, TCS, RVNL, Wipro Sink to 52-Week Low as 82 Stocks Bleed on NSE

In a brutal session of selling pressure on Monday, June 8, 2026, as many as 82 stocks on NSE fell to their 52-week lows, as benchmark indices NIFTY50 and BSE Sensex extended their losing run amid mounting geopolitical tensions and a global risk-off sentiment.

Some stocks that cratered to yearly troughs were blue-chip heavyweights Reliance Industries, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Wipro, Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) among others. The market capitalization of many large-cap and mid-cap companies fell sharply as investors ran to unwind positions.

Why did the market crash today?

The bloodbath on Dalal Street was triggered by a confluence of negative global cues:

There was a sharp escalation of regional tension Monday after Iran launched missiles at Israel following Israeli strikes targeting Beirut over the weekend, the first major breach of a fragile ceasefire that began in early April and shattered hopes for regional stability. As banking and market expert Ajay Bagga said, the situation has resulted in foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) selling so much in Indian stocks, and the FPIs have pulled out over ₹31,000 crore from Indian equities last week.

  1. Crude oil prices soared 5 percent on the heels of the military escalation. Brent crude futures were around $96.5 to $98 per barrel as India is a major crude importer.
  2. Global tech sell-off & rate fears. Wall Street’s bad news only added to that gloom. Stronger-than-expected US jobs data raised fears that the US Federal Reserve might not cut rates—and even hike them. That sent the Nasdaq 100 down more than 4 percent on Friday and caused a tech rout in Asia that hit IT stocks like TCS and Wipro hard.

Stocks in Focus

Reliance Industries: The oil-to-telecom conglomerate fell to a 52-week low and fell to ₹1,273.50. Oil exposure and 4% erosion in Oil-to-Chemicals (O2C) segment put pressure on its stock.

RVNL: The railway stock saw its losing streak extend to the ninth consecutive session and hit a low of ₹230. This year, the stock has fallen almost 46 percent due to low profitability and weak institutional interest.

Broader market carnage: The sell-off was not only in large caps; broader market indices like NIFTY Smallcap100 dropped 0.9%, a widespread fall.

All sectoral indices were down, with NIFTY Metal, Realty and Auto sectors leading the way. The India VIX, a measure of market volatility, rose 7.3% showing extreme fear among market participants.
