Groww, Zerodha, Angel One, Upstox Get GIFT City Nod for International Investing

India’s retail investing landscape is in the process of transformation with the approval of the top brokerage companies Groww, Zerodha, Angel One, and Upstox to operate from GIFT City to invest in international markets. A significant step forward in democratizing access to global markets for Indian retail investors.

The approval from regulators will allow these platforms to invest in overseas equities, ETFs, and other financial instruments directly through GIFT City’s International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) and therefore provide access to them through a process for all these systems. Indian investors have long been faced with restrictions and complex processes to invest abroad. With this approval, the process will be much smoother, more transparent, and cost‑efficient.

Industry experts say that the move will enable millions of retail investors to diversify portfolios outside of domestic markets and to invest in other markets. Investors have access to U.S., European, and Asian stocks, and with the global growth stories of U.S., European, and Asian shares, they can now participate in the global narrative instead of being exposed to single market risk.

For the platforms, the approval represents a strategic leap. Groww, Zerodha, Angel One, and Upstox are already among the best performing companies in the digital brokerage space in India, serving millions of users with a simple trading interface. Through GIFT City, they will enter into international investing, and their services will grow.

Also, the development underscores GIFT City’s growing importance as an international financial hub. The IFSC is well placed to be India’s gateway to global capital as it is drawing banks, insurers, and fintechs. The retail brokerages are also adding to its ecosystem, and India is looking to enter the world finance market more deeply.

For investors, the timing is crucial. The global market in technology, healthcare, renewable energy, and emerging sectors is set to increase rapidly for Indian retail investors, and the platforms will likely serve as an educational platform that will help them to understand risks and opportunities.

The approval for Groww, Zerodha, Angel One, and Upstox to make international investing available through GIFT City is a major step forward in India’s financial development. This will not only open up more investor windows but will also help India, as a world financial hub, grow.
