Nuvama Wealth Secures SEBI Approval to Launch Mutual Fund Business in India

Nuvama Wealth Management has received the final approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to launch its mutual fund business, marking a significant milestone in the company’s expansion into asset management.

Nuvama Wealth, formerly Edelweiss Wealth Management, will enter India’s fast-growing mutual fund industry for retail and institutional investors and its investment options will be broader. It will diversify the company’s offering from wealth advisory and brokerage services to investment into the financial services sector.

Experts say SEBI’s nod is a good thing as mutual funds are seeing exponential investor interest and fund flows at record levels due to the increasing demand in retail participation and SIPs (systematic investment plans). With equity markets at all-time highs and investor appetite rising, Nuvama’s entry will have huge potential to draw in Tier I and Tier II cities as well.

Nuvama Wealth has already established a strong presence in wealth management with high-net-worth individuals and institutional clients. Focusing on mutual funds will help the company to expand its distribution and advisory capabilities for a wider group of investors. We expect to offer schemes in equity, debt and hybrid categories in line with SEBI’s regulatory framework.

The mutual fund market in India has been growing rapidly, with total assets under management (AUM) crossing ₹55 trillion by the end of 2026. Nuvama’s entry adds to the market, with the present players HDFC Mutual Fund, ICICI Prudential, SBI Mutual Fund, Nippon India and others all in the top 5. But we believe new players with high distribution and digital capabilities can be able to make significant contributions to the market share.

As such, SEBI’s final approval for Nuvama Wealth to launch its mutual fund business means a new chapter is in process for the company. With strong investor interest, growing financial literacy and digital adoption, Nuvama is well-placed to tap into the mutual fund growth story in India. The launch will allow Nuvama to build out its brand and give investors more diversified options in the asset management industry.
