Hitachi Energy India announced a large power transformer manufacturing plant in Vadodara, Gujarat with the investment of ₹2,000 crore in order to develop the country’s energy infrastructure and to contribute to the transformation of the country’s power system to renewable and sustainable.

The new facility will be one of the largest of its kind in India and produce large capacity transformers for power transmission and distribution. These transformers will enable the national grid to incorporate renewable energy sources (solar and wind energy) in order to ensure electricity is reliable and efficient.
Company officials said the Vadodara plant will have state-of-the-art technology and advanced manufacturing. It will be home to domestic demand but will also be an export center for global markets. The investment would generate jobs in Gujarat both directly in the factory and indirectly through other related industries.
Hitachi Energy India’s decision comes at a time when India is seeing rapid growth in its power sector driven by ambitious government targets for renewable energy adoption and infrastructure modernization. This new facility will meet the increasing demand for reliable transmission equipment, especially as India expands its renewable capacity to achieve its net-zero goals by 2070.
Industry leaders see this investment as a strategic boost to India’s manufacturing ecosystem. If we localize production of large transformers, we can reduce reliance on imports and position our country as an international hub for energy equipment. This is also in line with the Make in India program of the Modi government to promote local manufacturing and technology development.
Hitachi Energy India’s ₹2,000 crore investment in Vadodara is a milestone in the nation’s energy journey. The new transformer factory will help in India’s power generation, in renewable integration and create jobs, contributing to the transformation of this country.
