Banking Rule Changes: Kotak and Axis Revise DCC Charges; SBI Late Fee Revision Awaited

Several banking-related fee changes will be implemented from August, and will affect customers using debit cards and credit cards. Kotak Mahindra Bank and Axis Bank have revised their DCC charges, while SBI credit card late payment fees are expected as an expected change that is yet to be officially confirmed.

Bank fee changes

As for Kotak Mahindra Bank, the Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) fee on eligible international debit card transactions will increase from 1% to 3.5% in the future. DCC is a way of billing international card transactions directly in Indian rupees instead of local foreign currency. But that may come at higher prices for Indian Rupees than local currency.

Axis Bank also revised their DCC charges from 1.5% to 2% for customers who travel abroad or buy on international websites with their debit cards. They will see a higher cost if they use Dynamic Currency Conversion during transactions.

Financial experts often advise international travelers to compare exchange rates and charges before choosing DCC. In many cases, the card network (Visa or Mastercard) can allow the transaction to be completed in the local currency and thus, the exchange rates tend to be more competitive compared to DCC.

The image also mentions a possible revision in SBI credit card late payment fees. It claims that the late fee for outstanding dues between ₹10,000 and ₹50,000 could increase from ₹750 to ₹1,300. But the image itself says such change is “Expected” so it should not be taken as a change unless officially announced by SBI Card.

We do suggest customers check the latest notifications from their bank or card issuer before assuming that these fee changes apply to their accounts. Banks usually communicate changes on charges through email, SMS, official websites, or updated schedules of charges.

These revisions highlight the importance of reviewing banking fees regularly, especially for customers who frequently use international payment services or rely on credit cards. Knowing what charges are applicable can help consumers avoid unnecessary costs and make informed financial decisions.

As banking services evolve, customers should stay informed about service costs, transaction fees, card fees, and other service costs to better manage their finances and avoid unexpected expenses.
