In one of the biggest anti-corruption operations in recent times, the Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has uncovered assets worth ₹100 crore to ₹150 crore linked to a government engineer in Hyderabad and other places in simultaneous raids. The searches were carried out as part of a disproportionate assets (DA) investigation against Mutyam Venkata Ramana, Divisional Engineer with Renewable Energy Development Corporation (REDCO) in Khairatabad, Hyderabad.
According to ACB officials, raids were conducted at the engineer’s home, office and seven other buildings with his relatives, close associates, and alleged benamidars. The operation unearthed an extensive portfolio of immovable and movable assets, which investigators believe are disproportionate to his known sources of income.
What the ACB Found
Preliminary studies revealed an impressive collection of properties and valuables accrued over the years. The main recoveries were:
Four residential flats
Commercial buildings
Multiple under-construction apartment projects
2.094 kilograms of gold ornaments, valued at approximately ₹4 crore
Bank deposits worth ₹52.02 lakh
Three vehicles, including a Kia, Mahindra SUV, and Maruti Baleno, valued at around ₹45 lakh
Various investment documents, financial records, and other valuables
The total market value of the recovered assets is estimated between ₹100 crore to ₹150 crore, making it one of the biggest disproportionate assets cases investigated by the Telangana ACB in recent years.
Simultaneous searches on several locations
The Anti-Corruption Bureau has carried out searches at nine locations — including the official's residence and office, as well as properties linked to family members and alleged benami holders. Ownership documents, bank transactions and financial documents are now being examined to determine how the assets were acquired.
Government officials think several properties may have been acquired through proxy ownership arrangements and more verification is being carried out to determine the true beneficiaries.
Investigation Continues
The ACB has registered a disproportionate assets case against Mutyam Venkata Ramana and is investigating further. They are investigating whether the engineer accrued wealth beyond his legitimate income during his government service tenure.
More forensic analysis of financial documents, property registration data and investment records is expected over the next few days. The agency indicated that the valuation of seized assets might change as the investigation progresses and more documents are examined.
Major Blow Against Corruption
The recent operation underscores the Telangana ACB’s increased focus on corruption in government agencies. If the allegations are substantiated, the case could become one of the state’s most significant corruption investigations involving a public servant.
The agency said the investigation is ongoing and the result will be established on the basis of the evidence collected during the searches. The eventual valuation of the recovered assets and the outcome of the investigation will be determined by the investigation and legal proceedings.
