The Tamil Nadu government has unveiled a youth-oriented Budget that is laden with initiatives to empower Generation Z, the first Budget since Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) came to power. Education, digital access, artificial intelligence (AI) and skill development is the focus of the Budget along with various measures for students and young professionals to prepare for the future economy.
From free laptops and bicycles to expanded AI education and large-scale skill development programmes, the budget is meant to expand opportunities for the state’s younger generation.
₹2,000 Crore for Free Laptops
The budget's biggest boost in the form of free laptops is money from ₹2,000 crore for free laptops to eligible students.
The initiative is intended to enhance digital access to education, online learning and students’ technology to be able to go to university and work.
The government believes digital connectivity is a crucial component of academic success and career readiness in the digitally connected era that is in the making in today’s world of technology-driven jobs.
AI Education Now Given Access to More Schools
As AI is becoming increasingly important in the field, the government is expanding AI training to 2,600 additional schools in Tamil Nadu.

Technology, innovation, entrepreneurship and advanced digital competencies are to be the focus of the programme.
Continued Support Through Free Bicycles
The budget also provides for free bicycles to students and students travelling long distances to schools and colleges, which also provides greater access to education.
The initiative has long been considered an important measure to improve educational accessibility and reduce dropout rates.
