RBI Bank Holiday Schedule June 2026 - Three Days of Closures This Week

Banks in India will be closed for three consecutive days from June 26 to 28, 2026, according to the Reserve Bank of India holiday schedule. The closure is due to the Muharram holiday on Friday, then the fourth Saturday, and the regular Sunday holiday. Customers should plan their transactions in advance as only digital banking services will be available during this period.

On June 26, Friday, banks in major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Patna, Ranchi, Raipur, Srinagar, and Vijayawada will be closed for Muharram, one of the most significant days of the Islamic calendar. The following day, June 27, being the fourth Saturday of the month, banks will be closed nationwide. This will be followed by the normal Sunday holiday on June 28, resulting in a three-day break in physical banking services.

During these days, branch operations such as cash deposits, cheque clearances, and loan processing will not be available. However, customers can still use UPI, mobile banking, internet banking, and ATMs for their financial needs. The closure is also applicable to stock markets, as NSE and BSE will be closed on June 26 for Muharram, which will lead to a long weekend for traders and investors.

Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar and a period of mourning and remembrance. The 10th day of Ashura is the day that Imam Hussain, grandson of Prophet Muhammad, was martyred at the Battle of Karbala. In India, prayers, processions, and public rituals are celebrated, leading to widespread holidays across states.

For customers, the advice is clear: perform any urgent branch-based transactions before June 26 to avoid any delays. Bank transfers and business transactions will also need to be scheduled in advance to prevent disruptions. With digital channels remaining active, people can still manage routine transactions online, ensuring minimal inconvenience.

In short, banks will be closed from June 26 to June 28, 2026, across most of India due to Muharram and weekend holidays. Customers should plan ahead and use digital banking services during this period to avoid any financial challenges.
