PM Modi and Japanese PM Sanae Takaichi Inaugurate Maruti Suzuki’s ₹35,000 Crore Kharkhoda Plant

Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi will jointly inaugurate Maruti Suzuki’s fourth vehicle manufacturing plant in Kharkhoda, Haryana. With an investment of ₹35,000 crore, the project will be one of the largest automobile plants in the world and will be the next step towards making India a global car manufacturing hub.

The inauguration takes place on the basis of the India-Japan Economic Forum where more than 150 Japanese companies are participating. This collaboration highlights the strengthening of bilateral ties between India and Japan, with Maruti Suzuki being a flagship example of Japanese investment in India’s industrial growth.

Spread across 800 acres, Kharkhoda will initially operate two units with five lakh vehicles annually and will scale up to ten lakh vehicles per year in stages. The project also includes an integrated supplier park to ensure production and logistics efficiency. The plant will thus generate more than 21,000 direct jobs as well as thousands of indirect jobs through ancillary industries.

The facility was built using the so-called Suzuki Smart Factory concept and incorporates advanced Industry 5.0 technologies such as AI-based collaborative robots. These will increase productivity and accuracy and create a safer working environment, positioning the plant as a model for next-generation manufacturing in India.

Sustainability is a major focus of the Kharkhoda project. The plant will run on 100% renewable electricity, utilize a Zero Liquid Discharge system in addition to water recycling, and by FY2026‑27 there will be a biogas plant. A 70 MW solar power plant and in-plant railway siding will also be used to ensure eco-friendly operations and logistics.
