PIB Fact Check: Beware of AI-Generated Investment Scam Using Fake PM Modi and Jaishankar Videos

A recent media and private company has sent a warning for a sophisticated online investment scam with fake images of PM Modi and External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar to the public. It is a fake video made using AI technology which promises a fantastic ₹1 lakh a day and ₹30 lakh for 20 months with an initial investment of ₹22,000.

According to the PIB Fact Check division, this video is entirely fake and is artificially created without any genuine endorsement or approval from either Prime Minister Modi, Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, or the Government of India. The PIB emphasized that no genuine investment platform or scheme has been authorized or promoted by these officials or the government itself, so that the scheme is fake.

This warning is indicative of a wider phenomenon in which cybercriminals are increasingly employing AI-generated videos as well as fake endorsements from celebrities and government officials to sell their image. The cybercriminals are using false promises of immense returns on investment to entice people to participate in the fraudulent schemes and to steal money and other sensitive personal or financial information from the most vulnerable victims.

Such alarming developments are concerning to the public and people should be careful to confirm any investment claim before investing money or sharing personal information. The PIB advises customers that if an investment prospect seems to guarantee high returns or is too good to be true, you are probably in danger of fraud.

Furthermore, the PIB has been actively calling on the public to take a proactive role in combating misinformation and online scams. They encourage people to report any suspicious or manipulated content they encounter. This can be done easily through their dedicated reporting channels such as WhatsApp at +91 87997 11259 or via email at factcheck@pib.gov.in. By staying vigilant and taking the necessary steps to verify information before acting on it, individuals can significantly reduce the risk of falling victim to online financial fraud.
