L&T Enters Electronics Manufacturing with ₹5,000 Crore Investment; 5,000 Jobs to Be Created in Coimbatore

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is investing ₹5,000 crore to enter the electronics manufacturing industry in Tamil Nadu. The company will build a state-of-the-art 40-acre electronics manufacturing campus in Coimbatore for a project which is expected to create around 5,000 direct and indirect jobs.

L&T Enters Electronics Manufacturing with ₹5,000 Crore Investment

The investment marks a significant step towards L&T’s diversification strategy by moving it away from the engineering, construction and technology businesses and into high-value electronics manufacturing. The new facility will strengthen the electronics ecosystem of India and support India’s ‘Make in India’ and Atmanirbhar Bharat projects.

The new manufacturing campus will produce advanced electronic products and components for both domestic and international markets. L&T has yet to announce a complete portfolio of products but its facility will be devoted to industrial electronics, defense, telecommunications, energy, and digital infrastructure.

The Coimbatore campus, spread over 40 acres, will include modern production units, research and development (R&D) facilities, testing laboratories, and advanced automation technologies. This project will be one of the biggest electronics manufacturing investments in southern India.

The investment is also a major boost to Tamil Nadu's industrial development. Thanks to the state’s facilities, skilled labor, and friendly investment policies, electronics manufacturing is a very good target for the state. The new plant will also attract other manufacturing clusters such as ancillary suppliers, suppliers of components, and logistics partners to build a global manufacturing ecosystem.

The project will create about 5,000 jobs (engineering, production, quality control, supply chain management, research, and administrative), company officials said. The initiative also is expected to help local MSMEs be integrated into L&T’s supply chain.

Industry experts say L&T's entry into electronics manufacturing comes at a time when India is experiencing fast growth in electronics production with domestic demand growing, government incentives under the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, and global companies looking to diversify supply chains beyond traditional manufacturing hubs.

The announcement underlines L&T’s commitment to innovation and advanced manufacturing, and will put it at the forefront of India’s electronics industry which is growing so rapidly. When it is operational, Coimbatore will contribute to exports, technology development, and job creation.
