The stock increased to an intraday high of ₹869.20 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE), up from its close of ₹793.15 and up by ₹76 since the quarterly earnings were announced.

The rally reflects growing investor confidence in the public sector lender, which has consistently delivered improving financial performance over the past few quarters.

Net Profit Rises 10%

Indian Bank reported a 10% year-on-year increase in net profit for the quarter ended June 30, 2026.

The bank posted a net profit of ₹3,273 crore, against ₹2,973 crore in the same quarter in the previous financial year. The steady growth in profitability was driven mostly by its lending business growth and operating performance.

Core income has strong growth in Core Income

The net interest income (NII), which is the amount of income earned from lending after deducting interest paid on deposits, rose 17% year-on-year to ₹7,435 crore with ₹6,359 crore in the same quarter last year.

Operating profit also showed a positive growth and grew by 16.5% to ₹5,557 crore from ₹4,770 crore a year ago.

Besides, other income grew 8% to ₹2,633 crore from ₹2,439 crore, further boosting the bank’s earnings.

Higher Provisions Reflect Prudent Risk Management

  1. Despite the strong earnings, Indian Bank increased its provisions significantly.
  2. The lender set aside ₹1,196 crore as provisions in the quarter, compared with ₹691 crore in the same period a year earlier.
  3. Provisions, however, fell 2.5% from ₹1,225 crore in the March quarter.

The higher provisioning is indicative of a cautious approach from the bank to its balance sheet and to future risks.

Asset Quality Improves Further

  1. One of the biggest positive aspects of this quarter’s results was asset quality improvement.
  2. Gross Non-Performing Assets (Gross NPA) declined to 1.86% from the previous quarter's 1.98%, and Net NPA was at a healthy 0.15%.

The reduction in bad loans is due to better recovery efforts and disciplined credit management, and is a sign of investor confidence in the bank’s financial health.

Stock Outperforms PSU Banking Index

Indian Bank has given a really good return in the past year.

The stock has risen about 38% in the past 12 months, which is much higher than the Nifty PSU Bank Index, which has risen about 20.5% in the same period.

Before Friday’s rally, the bank’s market capitalisation was ₹1.17 lakh crore. Even with a P/E ratio of 9.32, the stock was relatively attractive compared to its peers in the banking sector.

Analysts Remain Positive

Brokerage sentiment towards Indian Bank remains very good.

According to Bloomberg data:

  1. 12 analysts have given the stock a 'Buy' rating.
  2. 1 analyst recommends 'Hold'. 1 analyst has a 'Sell'.

The average 12-month target price is ₹987.79, indicating a potential upside of about 13.8% from current levels.

Outlook

Indian Bank's strong quarterly performance, asset quality, and solid growth in core banking income have gained investor confidence, leading to a sharp rally in its share price.

Investors will be looking forward to seeing the bank’s loan growth, deposit mobilization, margin, and asset quality. If the lender continues its current growth trajectory, it could remain one of the better performers in India’s public sector banks in FY2027.
