India's road transport and highway sector has evolved beyond asphalt and concrete roads. Today, Indian highways are undergoing a major digital transformation powered by FASTag-based electronic toll collection, Artificial Intelligence (AI), advanced traffic management systems, and real-time data analytics, with the help of the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL), a company jointly promoted by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and its partners.

To strengthen its digital infrastructure and accelerate the implementation of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), IHMCL has announced its Recruitment 2026 drive for 30 Systems Engineers (Intelligent Transport Systems) positions. This is a great opportunity for engineering graduates who want to get involved in India's smart highway ecosystem. One of the biggest highlights of this recruitment is that there is no separate written examination. Selection will be made purely based on a valid GATE 2026 score.
What are Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS)?
Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) refers to the integration of information technology, communication systems, electronics, and artificial intelligence into transportation infrastructure to improve road safety, traffic efficiency, and commuter convenience.
Systems Engineers recruited under the ITS division will play a key role in designing, implementing, and maintaining India’s digital highway infrastructure. They might be responsible for smart tolling systems, traffic surveillance networks, AI-powered road safety solutions, connected transport technologies, and real-time highway monitoring platforms.
This is not only a government job, but it is an opportunity to directly contribute to India’s vision of creating safer, smarter, and technology-driven highways.
