Dubai Introduces Four‑Day Work Week: Flexible Summer Hours for Public Sector

Dubai has once again taken a proactive step to make a change in workplace culture when it introduced a four-day working week and reduced hours for public sector employees. The Dubai Government Human Resources Department launched the latest edition of “Our Flexible Summer” programme (which is a work-life balance programme for peak summer months) on Monday, June 29.

It is the third consecutive year of the initiative, which will continue until Thursday, September 10. Dubai’s commitment to the well-being of employees is reflected in the programme and government services remain high. By accommodating staff, the administration strives to balance the needs of the business with the needs of the staff.

The initiative proposes two flexible working models. Such models allow government-driven organizations to schedule work in such a way that is efficient but still leaves a lot of time available for rest, family and personal activities for employees. And these reductions in summer hours are especially important in a region where extreme heat can affect productivity and health.
