State-owned oil marketing companies (OMCs) have reduced the prices of 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders in India from August 1 with relief to restaurants, hotels, eateries, and other commercial establishments. The latest revision is the second consecutive monthly reduction in commercial LPG prices, while domestic LPG cylinder prices remain unchanged.

According to the latest price revision, the cost of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has been reduced by ₹202 in Delhi and ₹209 in Kolkata. Similar reductions have been made in other major cities which will benefit businesses that rely heavily on LPG for daily operations.

After the price cut, commercial users such as restaurants, hotels, roadside eateries, catering services, and small businesses are expected to see lower operating costs. And the reduction might ease some of the financial pressure on food service companies, considering recent fluctuations in global energy prices.

However, there has been no change in the price of the 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder used by households. That means consumers using LPG for cooking at home will continue to pay the current rates applicable in their respective cities.

Commercial LPG prices in India are market-linked and are revised every month based on international LPG benchmark prices, currency movements, freight costs, and other global market factors. On the other hand, domestic LPG prices are influenced by government policy and are revised separately.

The reduction follows a cut in July, which signals the development of a cooling off of commercial LPG prices after earlier volatility linked to global energy markets. Companies that consume an enormous amount of LPG are expected to gain from the lower fuel costs, and that will help to improve margins in tourism and food services.

Commercial consumers have enjoyed some relief but household consumers will have to wait for any future price changes in domestic cooking gas prices. Oil marketing companies usually review LPG prices on the first day of every month, taking into account changes in international fuel markets and domestic pricing policies.

The August revision underscores the government and OMCs’ continuing efforts to align commercial LPG prices with global market trends and provide stability in domestic cooking gas prices.
