PMEGP Scheme: Eligible Entrepreneurs Can Get Loans Up to ₹10 Lakh With Government Subsidy

The PMEGP is one of the major government policies to promote self-employment and the creation of new micro enterprises. Banks are used to finance the programme and a subsidy of government to those eligible to start their business is provided.

PMEGP Loan Scheme Explained: Eligibility, Benefits & Subsidy

Under the PMEGP scheme, eligible individuals can apply for a loan of up to ₹10 lakh for service sector projects. For manufacturing sector enterprises, higher project costs may be permitted under the scheme in terms of the guidelines and bank appraisal. The financial assistance is aimed at giving an incentive for unemployed youth, artisans, women, and young entrepreneurs to start their own business.

One of the best benefits of PMEGP is a government subsidy, which is commonly known as Margin Money Subsidy. It can substantially reduce the effective loan burden as a result of the applicant’s category and the location of the project. The subsidy is reimbursed after the project is under the scheme and it is adapted to the guidelines as per the scheme and the entrepreneur pays back what he or she owes in the end.

The scheme is implemented at the national level by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) in coordination with State KVIC Directorates, State Khadi and Village Industries Boards (KVIBs), District Industries Centres (DICs), and banks.

PMEGP is open to individual entrepreneurs aged 18 years or above. For projects above the prescribed cost threshold, applicants usually need to have completed at least Class 8 education. The scheme is designed for new business and existing business units do not get any assistance under the PMEGP.

A wide range of business activities can be financed through the programme, including manufacturing, food processing, handicrafts, repair services, retail businesses, rural industries, and various service-sector enterprises. However, some activities, as mentioned in the scheme guidelines, are not eligible for financial assistance.

Apart from financial support, PMEGP also focuses on entrepreneurship development. In general, selected beneficiaries will be required to undergo an Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) training which gives them basic business management skills before or after loan disbursement.

As a result, the scheme has been important in creating employment opportunities in rural and urban India. PMEGP will promote economic development, local employment, and growth in the micro, small, and village industries.

Applicants applying for the scheme can submit their application through the official PMEGP online portal and complete the necessary documentation and verification process. Loan approval will be granted based on eligibility, the project's viability, and the lending bank's assessment.

For aspiring entrepreneurs looking to start a business with government assistance, the PMEGP scheme is an excellent opportunity to get support in the form of institutional credit along with financial assistance to ensure the reality of business ideas and to make it easier and affordable for them to turn those business ideas into reality and also to work in an efficient way in India and to support self-employment.
